Family Leadership Institute

Events for Learning Leadership Skills

The Family Leadership Institute is a venue for DPS Families across the district to enhance their leadership skills to support their children’s success. Participants will hone their leadership skills and abilities creating networks to drive positive change at their home, school, and in their community.

Families will have an opportunity to attend 4 Zoom sessions throughout the 2020-21 school year. Families also have the opportunity of attending other leadership events throughout the community, District, and other Nonprofit Organizations. Past Events

DPS Engagement Framework

  1. Progama Familiar de Linguaje- a Language program for families to share, understand, and practice strategies that encourage infants and toddlers from native Spanish-speaking families to reach their potential. Access their Facebook page.
  2. CREA results seeks to improve quality and health of families through their Creating Healthy Communities program. With their team of experts in health and wellness, they took on the task to create a series of educational workshops, informative mini videos, health screenings, health events, and more for the community. Each month will have a new topic with new content accessible on the CREA website.
  3. The Community Engagement and Strategy team at DPS teaches about the DPS Engagement Framework. This is a document of best practices + guidelines that schools in the DPS community use to engage with the community. This presentation includes toolkits that can be accessed as an example of how-to engage your community as well! Find these toolkits on the DPS Equity & Engagement website.

More than a Parent, We are all in this Together

  1. DPS community hubs serve as engagement centers with a wide variety of services for all persons in the community including but not limited to workforce development, GED/literacy/language classes, and basic needs assistance. For more information, go to the Community Hubs page on the DPS website.
  2. DPS Behavior Barriers Team presents on the importance of self-care, how to building confidence in behavior strategies, and how to bridge relationships between families and schools.For more information on the behavior barriers team, go to the team’s website.

Communicating Effectively in the Face of Conflict

  1. A quick presentation on ballot initiatives impacting DPS schools, and an update on the community hubs and the services they offer can be found on the Community Hubs page on the DPS website.
  2. Presentation from the DPS Family Constituency Services team. This team works with families and staff to resolve concerns, educate families and school staff on DPS policies and initiatives, and connect families with resources within the district. Today, this team want to teach tools that lead to more successful conversations: Building communication skills and behaviors, to learn your conflict style and identify others conflict styles, and how to recognize the opportunities present in conflict situations. Trauma-Informed Practices

  1. Erin Cobbler discussing our Bond and Mill Levy.
  2. Monica Padilla discusses trauma-informed practices for caregivers to support kids amidst COVID and remote learning. They will briefly discuss the state of the country, promoting resilience, caregivers as a source of strength, a brief overview of trauma, the 4 priorities of trauma-informed care, and 4 wellness strategies to promote care for yourself as a caregiver and for our students.
