Anchored in Literacy was a virtual event designed for African American students and families. Hosted by the African American Equity Task Force, this was the third event in a series of programming created to celebrate, educate and inform families on how to navigate DPS systems and structures. During the virtual event on Dec. 8, we received and celebrated our over 150 student nominations! Thank you to all the schools, staff and families that submitted student names.
The event also included engaging activities such as the Artist Station with African American authors, Family Reading Circles hosted by our Black Dads Story Time and Book Club, Black Family Engagement Circle, which included our Black Experiences Timeline, Literacy Best Practices and our very own guest student leaders speaking about their podcasts, Know Justice Know Peace from DMLK, along with The Voice of Montbello from McGlone.
Stay tuned to learn more about our third and final event in the series, Anchored in Advocacy on Feb. 9, designed to celebrate African American family and student engagement, highlighting social and academic excellence.
